JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – A South African minibus taxi driver five times over the legal blood alcohol limit at breakfast time was arrested on Wednesday for transporting 49 children in a 16-seat vehicle.

The 26-year-old man was pulled over at a routine check-point in KwaZulu-Natal province, where traffic officials found the children, aged between three and 13, crammed on top of each other for the morning ride to school.

“The man is now behind bars,” Colin Govender of the Road Traffic Inspectorate said. The driver is due to appear in court on Thursday.

With the soccer World Cup just months away, police are cracking down on rogue taxi operators in the hope that foreign visitors will use minibuses to get around the country.

Millions of mostly black South Africans use minibus taxis to travel between townships and cities, although many of the vehicles are barely roadworthy and fatal accidents are common.

Shaun Palmer in 1996 in Nevgal Italy, got his first top ten finish by placing 7th. He forever shocked and changed mountain biking. He was riding a Yellow Intense M-1, with Magura HS-33 brakes. I could not find the original picture but here is a close one from 1995. You can see on this old single pivot M-1, he still did not even have a BOXXER, it was the old DHO.

This is really what is wrong with mountain biking at this point; no Shaun Palmer. Mountain Biking deperately needs a personality like the Palm.

The devastating earthquake that struck Haiti yesterday has left thousands dead and an impoverished country in ruins. There is not much we can do here but gives our blessings, pray, or whatever type of support one may choose. Just think how lucky you are to live in such great countries such as the USA, Canada, countries in Europe, or any other modernized country that is able to give support to countries like Haiti. Give your prayers to Haiti and all of the people lost from this uncontrollable disaster.
